The wallet is printed flat on the bed in flexible TPU and then folded into its final shape. It is both:
extremely thin
It has a thickness of only 1mm. it is made of only 3 layers of 0.2mm for the whole wallet and then 2 layers of 0.2mm are added on top. The first designs didn't include the top layers, but I quickly realized that the wallet was too slippery and would fall out of pockets (oopsie 🫣) so I added the extra layers on top to make it more uneven.
unbreakable
Because it is printed in TPU which is both flexible and extremely resistant, it is virtually impossible to rip.
Contrarily to tainted leather, it doesn't wash out over time. Indeed, the color is completely embedded in the material, so scratches or other damages would be invisible.
Another important feature is hygiene! As I was experimenting with these designs during COVID times, the ability to clean such items (that we touch multiple times a day) was paramount.
Because the material is TPU, the wallet can be cleaned with water and soap. The colors and the material are extremely resistant over time.
Although it is really thin, it can hold a lot of cards and bills. It can easily fit everything we need on a daily basis.
I have been using mine every day for 5 years and it is still working! No tear, no change in color, no scratch,... It is still as perfect as day one.
If the card holder design is perfecr for cards and bills, it is definitely not good for coins! We don't use coins so often anyway, but I still wanted to have a way to carry a few just in case.
So, still following the origami principles, I created the origami coin holder. Printed flat and in TPU, it works just like its counterpart. I added a hole in the design to make it into a keychain if needed.
It is very easy to customize and I have printed a few for friends and family, customized to their tastes. For instance, I took inspiration from Picasso and his one-line drawings studies to create the bull wallet. The one-line drawings also inspired some of the bookmarks.
I still use my wallet everyday! I have changed it only once over the past five years, and only because I wanted to change the design, not because it got damaged.
I am very happy with my wallet and (this is rare!) there is nothing I would change about this design.
